The Memorial West Republican Women PAC, a member of the Texas Federation of Republican Women and the National Federation of Republican Women, was organized on November 6, 1961, as The Republican Women’s Club of Precinct 265.
Marty Brumitt was elected our first President, and membership dues were set at $3. In all, 42 women have served as our President and our dues are now $30.00.
In 2001, Memorial West decided to take a more active role in promoting issues and legislation. Because of this, we decided to change our logo to something more closely representative of our new goals. A forward moving elephant and the logo, “On the Move” were adopted. Our name has gone through several changes over the years, and in 2003, when we became a PAC, our name was changed to Memorial West Republican Women PAC.
Major endeavors of the organization include working for local, state and national candidates. Also important are events to raise money to help fund candidates’ campaigns. We continue our work in the tradition of Eisenhower’s GOP.
Memorial West’s community service includes; collecting toys for the children housed at the Houston Area Women’s Center, and donating books to the center for both women and children. Memorial West also donates books to various elementary schools and our members contribute time to many local charitable organizations.
When our legislators are home in Houston, members of Memorial West visit with them about the many issues and legislation important to us. Memorial West members spend a day in Austin when the State Legislature is in regular session, observing the activities and meeting with local Republican legislators discussing and lobbying about issues that we feel are important.
WE have had six members honored by TFRW as Outstanding Women of Texas and one of them served as TFRW President in 1984. Memorial West has consistently won both NFRW and TFRW awards. In 2005, we won TFRW “Best Newsletter” Award.
